From the website:
Preeminent cellist and collaborator Yo-Yo Ma has always explored new ways to share music with his audience and other performers. For his latest album, Songs of Joy & Peace, Yo-Yo invited a remarkable group of friends to create music with him – including such internationally respected artists as James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Diana Krall, Chris Botti, and RenĂ©e Fleming.
Now Yo-Yo Ma is extending the invitation to you. In celebration of his album’s upcoming release, Yo-Yo would like to share the joy of collaboration with Indaba’s international community. To get you started, he has recorded the melody of the traditional song, "Dona Nobis Pacem (Give Us Peace)". Collaborate virtually with Yo-Yo by adding your own counter-melody or record an entirely new set of variations.
For inspiration, we've included an example variation from an improvisational session with Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer as well as an example counter-melody recorded by Yo-Yo Ma. Check them out in the Source Files section to the right.
Music has the power to bring us all closer together. Whether you're an electric guitarist or a choral singer, we invite you to bring your creativity to Yo-Yo Ma's musical party.
